Chairman & Coach

Andy Southall

Coaching qualifications: Level 2 BTF Coach since 2004. As a previous junior Head Coach I have been coaching with the junior section since 2002. I have also coached adults taking part in novice training sessions for our Wombourne Sprint Triathlons, that I help to organise.

Sporting history: I did my first triathlon in January 1992 - the 'Telford Tinman'. Joined BCT the same year and have been a member, racing and volunteering since.

Favourite session to coach: Technique or skills. It's very rewarding to see a visible improvement from the athletes taking part in the session

Favourite race: Alpe d'huez, long or short.

Coaching philosophy: Consistent training brings rewards. Keep it simple and enjoy what you are doing.

Best bike ride cafe stop: Indianas, Alpe d'huez. Great place to witness the expressions when riders have conquered the Alpe.

Lee Moreton

Coaching qualifications: Level 2 BTF Coach, started coaching 2010

Sporting history: I have competed in Triathlon since 2006. I will race anything from Sprints to Iron Distance and ultra marathons and have been known to pick particularly challenging races such as Transvulcania Ultra Marathon and Embrunman Triathlon. I represented the GB age group team in the European Triathlon championships in 2013 and have qualified again for 2015.

My proudest sporting moment: Finishing my first Ironman in Lanzarote in 2010 having worked so hard for the previous 6 months.  It was the first 'serious' race I have ever done and whet my appetite for other extreme races.

Favourite race: Challenge Roth

Favourite sport (other than triathlon!): Snow boarding

Sporting heros:  Daley Thompson - true legend!

Coaching philosophy: Consistency is key

Other stuff: I have a terrible sense of direction and recently got lost in a race losing 1st place.

Coach & Welfare Officer

Clare Moreton

Level 1 BTF Coach 2011

Sporting history: I completed my first triathlon in 2009 from a background of zero sporting experience.  At about the same time my children also joined the club following my husband Lee Moreton into the sport.  I have competed in several Sprint and Olympic distance Triathlons since.  I have a particular love of open water swimming after taking over 2 years to overcome my complete fear of the concept - it's now my favourite summer pastime.  I would like to finish a marathon and may be move onto to a half Iron distance race, who knows?!

Proudest sporting moment: For myself any finish line! I feel privileged to be able to compete amongst family and friends.  But I am always prouder watching Lee or the children achieve the seemingly impossible.

Favourite Sports (other than triathlon!): Skiing.

Sporting Heroes: An obvious one maybe, but Chrissie Wellington is an outstanding individual who has truly changed the perception of women in Triathlon.

Coaching Philosophy: Believe anything is possible.

Coaching qualification: Level 1 BFT Coach 2014

Triathlon sporting history: Competed in my first triathlon (Much Wenlock Sprint) in 2010 after much cajoling from a few work colleagues who were in to triathlon. Since then I have competed in events from sprint to middle distance, I'm still to go the full distance. I got my first GB age group vest earlier this year (2014) at the European Championships in Kitzbuhel and have qualified for Geneva in 2015.

Triathlon highlight: Winning gold at the National team Relays this year.

Favourite discipline: Swimming.

Sporting Highlight (not triathlon): Being at the England vs Greece match when David Beckham's free kick took England to the 2002 World Cup finals.

Other stuff: One day I plan to follow the complete Tour de France...... in a campervan.

Coaching qualifications: Level 1 BTF Coach, started coaching late 2016

Sporting history: A late starter to sport and triathlon in my mid 40s in 2011 with a pretty much unused set of legs. Completed about 6 long distance triathlons, plenty of middle, olympic and sprints.

My proudest sporting moment: Finishing the "Brutal" after a DNF at Ironman Wales the week before after coming off my bike..

Favourite race: Ironman Wales

Favourite sport (other than triathlon!): Running

Coaching philosophy: Stick to the plan and do a little and often.

Coach

Nigel Briscoe

Level 1 BTF Coach 2014

Sporting history: I entered the world of Triathlon as a parent watching my daughter but it wasn't long before I'd entered my first event the BCT Tri a Tri. I got hooked and progressed mainly onto sprint distance races where I've steadily chipped away at my PB. I've also raced over the Olympic and Half distances at Bala. I'd like to complete an iron distance race in the future, somewhere cold and wet probably. Not strictly Triathlon but I've really enjoyed the local Time Trials which are well represented by BCT.

Proudest sporting moment: I'm always proud to finish regardless of the distance, but my standout finish to date would be the 2014 Bala Half distance where I'll be heading again next year.

Favourite Sports (other than triathlon!): Surfing, Mountain Biking and Snowboarding.

Sporting Heroes: Sir Chris Hoy and Steve Peat (Downhill MTB World Champion).

Coaching Philosophy: The hardest step is the one out of the door.
