Mark Gatenby Cornwall 10K Swim

When I started swimming with BCT more than two years ago I could barely complete one length of the pool however I took part in a 10km swim event in Cornwall recently involving more than forty people doing four swims from Cornish beaches in one day.

The group swam out of Mousehole harbour, around St Clement's Isle anticlockwise and back.

The second and third swims were from Carbis Bay where we swam round the headland towards St Ives harbour and back and then the third swim along the beach around the headland to see Porthkidney beach and back.

The inexorable climax of our day was swimming from Crantock beach up the Gannel estuary around an anchored boat and back to the beach. This swim was planned perfectly by our safety crew who were on paddle boards because we had the help of tidal assist both up and down-stream.

It was a good day and thanks to Alan, Holly, Dave and the BCT members for all the ace swim sessions that have made it possible for me to enjoy this.
