Weekend Roundup 9th June

Neil Millward qualified for IM 70.3 World Championships

This weekend the club has had athletes again travelling in search of that elusive race. Karen (the Hoff) Richards returned to San Francisco to Escape from Alkatraz. My limited knowledge of this race can be summarised by. Boat start, Cold sharky swim, ½ mile run to transition. Hilly bike and a tough run including sand and 400 steps. Looks a great race in a beautiful location. Karen finished 28th in age group, but definitely in 1st place for distance travelled.

Next, down in the Cotswolds Carolyn Holles raced her first middle distance at the Cotswolds 113.5 finishing in 6hrs 33. Also racing the 113 was Jessica Beasley finishing in 5hrs 25. Great work ladies Dave Nash also raced but Dave described his race as a bad day at the office, Dave will bounce back for sure.

Just up the road Stafford was home to Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire. The swim taking place in Chasewater followed by a great bike route taking in the best that Staffordshire has to offer. The run route getting good reviews thanks to the crowds cheering on. I know some of our guys also rode over to give some support BCT style. Athletes I’m aware of are Huw Jones 7.29. Sarah Postles 7.03, David Newport 5.09 and with a stonking 4.56 Neil Milward has secured a place at next years 70.3 World Championships in Nice, brilliant.

  • Karen Richards - escape from alcatraz
  • David Newport - Staffs 70.3
  • Carolyn Holles - Cotswold 113.5
  • Jessica Beasley - Cotswold 113.5
  • Sarah Postles - Staffs 70.3
  • Huw Jones - Staffs 70.3

Not racing, Matt Price and Clare O’Kane were down in South Wales today taking on the Dragon Ride sportive over 7,000 ft of climbing and 95 miles. That wasn’t enough for Matt so he wrapped up his day with a 5k recovery run.

Sunday also saw the BCT memorial ride with 50 riders taking place in 2 groups finishing at Halfpenny Green Vineyards.
